Hours:                   37 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a concept engineer within a defence programme to help define and develop Effects Management Segment concepts. This programme is critical to maintaining a sovereign defence capability. The Concept Engineer requires excellent communication skills supported by technical delivery and management experience.

The Concept Engineer will be placed at the forefront of defining, co-ordinating and delivering technical activities where they will be required to work closely with a number of enthusiastic and multi-disciplined internal and international teams.

What you will be doing

  • Identifying which technology’s to invest in
  • Linking to delivery programme to identify collaboration opportunities
  • Mapping Effect Management Segment technologies back into customer needs and opportunities
  • Concept Generation and Refinement
  • Concept capability analysis and competitor product technical performance analysis
  • Informing and creating links with Research and Technology activities
  • Planning, Supporting and developing demos of related technologies

Skills Required 

  • Ideally degree qualified in a STEM subject, such as electronics, mathematics, physics, systems engineering or aerospace engineering
  • Knowledge of the future operating environment
  • The ability and cultural awareness to work with multiple disciplinary functions supporting technology and concepting, across the Group
  • The confidence to embrace the uncertain nature of early concept development to progress towards defining solutions and system concepts
  • The ability and desire to employ new techniques and utilise new ideas and technologies
  • To be adaptable and flexible to changing/emerging requirements
  • An appreciation of weapons systems, platforms and sub-systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience working autonomously and with senior support
