We have an exciting opportunity for an Lead Mechanical Architect to work for an ambitious, highly regarded, scientific engineering / technology business that are in a position of sustained growth.
An exciting opportunity has arisen within a Mechanical Architecture division for an experienced Mechanical Architect to join a dynamic team.
Mechanical Architects, play a pivotal role in all stages of product development, from initial feasibility studies to series production and ongoing in-service support. Your key responsibilities will include capturing and managing requirements to ensure product system performance meets specifications, deadlines, and budget targets. You will be responsible for justifying designs, coordinating verification activities to demonstrate performance, and ensuring that functional and mechanical requirements are implemented across all sub-assemblies.

The primary duties of a Mechanical Architect encompass:
- Lead overall product structure, mechanical interfaces and architecture
- Act as focus for all mechanical architecture issues and investigations
- Lead architectural trades with relevant partners
- Ensure embodiment of generic policies e.g. modularity, re-use, design for assembly
- Undertake systems-level technology maturity and design complexity assessments
- Lead relationship with Product Design
- Lead program Phase Gate reviews
- Technical management of suppliers driving dedication to deliver on time on cost
- Accountable for assigned budgets
- Leadership, both technical and managerial, of engineering team
Qualifications & Experience:
- Educated to degree level with significant industrial experience
- Experience of electro-mechanical & mechanical design
- Experience developing proving logic and leading the generation of compliance evidence
- Desire and determination for on time, on cost and on quality delivery
- Proven track record to foster and lead collaborative teams
- Shown ability to influence senior partners
- Ability to lead in an international environment and understand cultural issues
- We are also interested in a proficient understanding of broader engineering fields, such as Materials, Tolerancing, Configuration Control, Vibration, Shock, Fatigue, Six Sigma & Lean Design, Systems Engineering V-model, DFMEA
- Strong interpersonal and well-developed communication skills
You should be able and willing to gain (UK Eyes only) security clearance, potentially to DV level in the future. For this department, we can only accept applications for Sole British National only, due to the specific classification of this role.
